Vehicle Code Section 27400

Our review of the annotated history reveals the following legislative history (every “c.” below represents a separate legislative bill):

Added: 1973, c. 87
Amended:
•  1975, c. 495: rewrote the introduction to the section
•  1977, c. 348: added subdivision (c)
•  1980, c. 107: included “firefighting” personnel in subdivision (a); and added subdivision (d)
•  1982, c. 542: rewrote subdivision (a) which read, “(a) Law enforcement and firefighting personnel when on duty.”
•  1985, c. 736: added “or bicycle” in the first sentence; substituted the introductory clause for the former introductory clause; deleted “under emergency conditions” at the end of subdivision (a); substituted “a manner so” for “such a manner” in the second sentence of subdivision (d); and added subdivision (e)
•  2003, c. 594: amended the first sentence of the first paragraph by substituting “A” for “No” and “may not wear a headset covering, or earplugs” for “shall wear any headset covering, or any earplugs; substituted “This prohibition” for “The prohibition of this section” at the beginning of the introductory clause; substituted “A” for “Any” at the beginning go subdivisions (b) through (e); substituted “A person” for “Persons” at the beginning of subdivision (a); amended subdivision (d) by deleting “custom” after “in the form of”; added “specifically” after “molds that are”; and substituted “The plugs” for “The custom plugs”; and substituted “that” for “which” in subdivision (e)
