1971, c. 578: permitted the use of information furnished to the private use of the department in proceedings arising out of the provisions of Division 9 of the Welfare Code to determine entitlement to, and directly connected with and limited to the administration of, public social service.
1974, c. 1159: rewrote the first sentence to read: “Except as otherwise specifically provided in this code, the information obtained in the administration of this code shall be for the exclusive use and information of the director and the Director of Employment Development in discharge of his or their duties and shall not be open to the public, nor admissible in evidence in any action or special proceeding, other than one arising out of the provisions of this code or one arising out of the provisions of Division 9 (commencing with Section 10000) of the Welfare and Institutions Code to determine entitlement to, and directly connected with and limited to the administration of, public social services.”
1979, c. 288: in the first sentence deleted “and the Director of Employment Development” following “information of the director” and at the end of the first sentence added “or a proceeding to determine entitlement to, and directly connected with and limited to the administration of, locally provided general relief or assistance benefits.”
1982, c. 1080: added “or medical assistance services” at the end of the first sentence.
1984, c. 1127: lettered the first paragraph as subd. (a) and added subd. (b).
1985, c. 543: added subds. (c) and (d).
1987, c. 855: deleted subdivision designation (a), and deleted former subdivisions (b) through (d) After the 1987 amendment, the section read as follows:
Except as otherwise specifically provided in this code, the information obtained in the administration of this code shall be for the exclusive use and information of the director in discharge of his or her duties and shall not be open to the public, nor admissible in evidence in any action or special proceeding, other than one arising out of the provisions of this code, one arising out of the provisions of Division 9 (commencing with Section 10000) of the Welfare and Institutions Code to determine entitlement to, and directly connected with and limited to the administration of, public social services, or a proceeding to determine entitlement to, and directly connected with and limited to the administration of, locally provided general relief or assistance benefits or medical assistance services. This information may be tabulated and published in statistical form for the use and information of state departments and the public, except that the name of the employing unit or of any worker shall never be divulged in the course of the tabulation or publication.
