Our review of the annotated history reveals the following legislative history (every “c.” below represents a separate legislative bill):

Amended:
•  1975, c. 674:  extended provisions to medical-dental staffs, dental review committees, and dental societies and review committees.
•  1978, c. 7:  in the first paragraph, inserted “or chiropractive review” following “dental review” and substituted “dental, or chiropractic societies” for “or dental societies”; and, in the second paragraph, substituted “, dental, or chiropractic society” for “or dental society”.
•  1978, c. 503:  in the first paragraph, inserted “or dental hygienist review” and “dental hygienist”; and, in the second paragraph, inserted “dental hygienist,”.
•  1982, c. 705:  extended provisions to veterinary staffs, veterinary review committees, and veterinary societies.
•  1983, c. 289:  in the first paragraph, inserted a comma following “medical-dental”, inserted “podiatric, registered dietitian,”, inserted “or podiatric review or registered dietitian review”; in the first and second paragraphs, inserted “podiatric, dietetic,”; and added the third paragraph relating to the 1983 amendments.
•  1983, c. 422:  in the first paragraph, inserted a comma following “medical-dental”, inserted “podiatric, registered dietitian,”, inserted “or podiatric review or registered dietitian review”; in the first and second paragraphs, inserted “podiatric, dietetic,”; and added the third paragraph relating to the 1983 amendments.
•  1983, c. 1081:  in the first paragraph, inserted a comma following “medical-dental”, inserted “podiatric, registered dietitian,”, inserted “or podiatric review or registered dietitian review”; in the first and second paragraphs, inserted “podiatric, dietetic,”; and added the third paragraph relating to the 1983 amendments.
•  1985, c. 725:  added subdivision designations; made the section applicable to “psychological” staff; rewrote the material preceding “who is a party” in subdivision (c). Also rewrote subdivision (e) which read: “The amendments made to this section at the 1983 portion of the 1983-84 Regular Session of the Legislature shall not exclude the discovery or use of relevant evidence in a criminal action”.
•  1990, c. 196:  in subdivision (a), inserted “or of a peer review body, as defined in Section 805 of the Business and Professions Code”, and inserted “for that peer review body, or”; and in subdivision (e), inserted “or at the 1990 portion of the 1989-90 Regular Session of the Legislature”.
•  1994, c. 815:  inserted references to acupuncture and acupuncture review throughout the section.
•  2000, c. 136:  inserted references to marriage and family therapist and licensed clinical social worker throughout; and, in subdivision (e), inserted “or at the 2000 portion of the 1999-2000 Regular Session of the Legislature”.
•  2011, c. 381:  in subdivision (a), inserted “professional clinical counselor,” in two places and inserted “state or local licensed professional clinical counselor,”; in subdivision (d), inserted “professional clinical counselor,”; and in subdivision (e), inserted “or at the 2011 portion of the 2011-12 Regular Session of the Legislature,” and made nonsubstantive changes.
•  2015, c. 274: added references to pharmacists, among other changes.
