Our review of the annotated history reveals the following legislative history (every “c.” below represents a separate legislative bill):

Added: 1976, c. 465
Amended:
•  1997, c. 148: in the second paragraph of subd. (a), substituted “charge him or her” for “charge him”; and added subds. (c) to (g).
•  1998, c. 786: inserted in subd. (b) “agency against public safety officer who has successfully completed the probationary period that may be required by his or her employing”, inserted a new subd. (c) pertaining to chiefs of police, and redesignated subsequent subdivisions accordingly.
•  2004, c. 405: in subd. (g), substituted a reference to subdivision (d) for a reference to subdivision (c).
•  2009, c. 494: in subd. (d), redesignated the first paragraph as subd. (d)(1) and former subds. (d)(1) to (d)(8) as d(2)(A) to (d)(2)(H); in redesignated subd. (d)(1), in the third sentence, substituted “discipline by a Letter of Intent or Notice of Adverse Action articulating the discipline that year, except as provided in paragraph (2).” for “disciplinary action within that year, except in any of the following circumstances:” and added the fourth sentence.
