California Code of Civil Procedure Statutory History

Code of Civil Procedure: When originally enacted in 1872, the CCP was divided into four parts: Courts of Justice, Civil Actions, Special Proceedings of a Civil Nature, and Evidence. Many of these new laws were derived from the 1851 California Civil Practice Act and the drafts presented to them by Stephen Field that were prepared by New York Code Commissioner David Dudley Field. The 1850 New York Code of Civil Procedure drafts had not been adopted by New York by the time that California enacted them in 1872.
