Free MCLE Presentation

Legislative Intent Service, Inc. provides an approved one-hour MCLE lecture on the use of legislative intent analysis, which would cover any one of these three topics:

  • LEGISLATIVE INTENT, RESEARCH AND HISTORY: We discuss what is legislative intent, where do you find it, how do you use it, and why it is important. We have documented over 800 cases using legislative intent materials and with the current surge of litigation, the use of legislative intent materials by today's legal professional becomes an important legal consideration.
  • 2009 LEGISLATIVE REVIEW: We address the most recent changes to the laws passed in the 2009 Legislative Session. We can cover a variety of subject areas, which would include a brief legislative history on each bill, or we can address a bill in a subject area of interest to your firm if you let us know in advance.
  • PROCEDURAL CONSIDERATIONS: We discuss submitting legislative history materials before the court, the requirements of judicial notice, authentication, and whether you should offer a whole or partial submission of legislative history; we also discuss the plain meaning rule, ambiguity, and the primacy of legislative history in statutory construction.

We bring our MCLE talks to any group of 10 or more legal professionals anywhere in California without charge.

Legislative Intent Service, Inc., serving the legal community for over thirty years, has been cited in over 60 published opinions as the provider of legislative history materials for statutory construction analysis. Materials accompanying our talks will include sample CDs, our extensive Points and Authorities, a sample Motion for Judicial Notice, and how to offer legislative history documents to a court.
